Rare Hindi old songs

I have listed some rare songs which are not so popular yet melodious.

1)    Meri jaan mujhe jaan na kaho

This wonderful song is from the epic movie “Anubhav”. The film is directed by Basu Bhattacharya. Geeta Dutt’s earthy voice did total justice with this beautiful song penned down by Gulzar. Beautiful cinematography presenting Tanuja at her best! The deep expression in Sanjeev kumar’s eyes and innocence of Tanuja with rain drops falling in the background is a treat to watch.  The more you listen to this song the more you get hooked to Geeta Dutt’s voice. Hats off to the music director, Kanu Roy for composing such a mesmerizing musical piece.  With very few instruments in the background, the song presents its own class.

2)    Jalate hai jiske liye

This magical melody from the movie “Sujata” is the most emotive song I have ever heard. This exceptional song is composed by SD Burman and sung by velvety voiced, Talat Mehmood. I am a big fan of Talat Mehmood and I feel this song is one of his finest songs. Nutan’s intrinsic beauty, and Sunil Dutt’s acting is unforgettable. Full song is picturized on telephone. No choreography, only expressions.  awesome work!

 3)    Seene me sulaghte hai arman

This vintage song is one of the beautiful compositions of music director Anil Biswas, from the film “Tarana”.  It expresses pain, longing and intricacies of love in a subtle way. Unparalleled combination of Talat Mehmood and lata Mangeshkar. His soft and mystic voice offers a soothing calmness to listeners.  Talat mehmood and Dilip kumar was a great combination. You cannot resist listening to such a gem. Beautiful rendition of this song is available in Jagjit Singh’s album “Close to My Heart”!

 4)    Kai baar yun hi dekha hai

Another masterwork by awesome poet Yogesh. This Heart rendering song is from the movie “Rajanigandha” adapted from Mannu Bhandari’s short story “Yahi Sach Hai”. The irresistible voice of Mukesh in this song will definitely touch the core of your heart. He won National award for this song in playback singing. Shot in a single cab, the director very wisely has encapsulated so many emotions and dilemma of the actress in a single song. The fresh music of music maestro Salil Chaudhary will linger in your mind for a long time.

  5)    Phir kahin koi phool khila

What a marvelous song by Manna dey from the movie “Anubhav”, directed by Basu Bhattacharya! Composed by Kanu Roy this song is based on “Desh or Des Raag”. It offers a pure bliss to the listeners! Wonderful lyrics by Gulzar expressing complexities in relationship. The song is a non-lip synch song of Sanjeev kumar, picturized on Tanuja and Dinesh Thakur as well. Music composer Kanu Roy has always created numerous amazing songs with minimal use of orchestra and this classic number is one of those.

6)    Ye din kya aye

Amol Palekar and Basu Chatterje is a deadly combination when it comes to realistic and simplistic movies. The song is from the movie “Choti si baat” directed by Basu Chatterjee. All songs of Basu Chatterjee’s films have fabulous music. This song is composed by veteran music composer Salil Chaudhary, written by lyricist Yogesh and sung by exceptional singer Mukesh.  This evergreen song gives you the experience of a soothing breeze.  One cannot get eyes off from Vidya Sinha in this song. Her smile and simplicity is adorable.

7) Tum ho mere dil ki dhadkan

Another awesome yet underrated song from the 70s is “tum ho mere dil ki dhadkan” from the movie “Manzil” directed by Basu Chaterjee. This delightful song is composed by the great R D Burman and written by legendary poet of Indian cinema, Yogesh. The magic and aura of Kishore Da’s voice in this song is inimitable. Picturized on Amitabh Bachhan, this song gives a calm and soothing feel. A timeless number which expresses maturity and sincerity in love in a very gentle way.

8)    Pal bhar me ye kya ho gaya

An endearing musical piece from the movie “Swami”! Composed by Rajesh Roshan, written by Amit Khanna and sung by Lata Mangeshkar! Just close your eyes while listening to this iconic melody and you will experience pure ecstasy. The incomparable voice of Lata Ji in this song will leave you stumped. The song is shot in a small village capturing the picturesque beauty of the rural area. The naive looks of Shabana Azmi has made this song more beautiful.

 9)    Aha rimjhim ke pyare pyare geet liye

This evergreen romantic duet is from the movie “Usne kahan tha” starring Sunil Dutta and Nanda. Sung by Talat Mehmood and Lata Mangeshkar, composed by Salil Chaudhary and written by Shailendra. This absolute classic number takes you to a completely different world. Sweet tune and simple lyrics yet heart touching, what a magic!

 10)Ai dil kahan teri manzil

Another melodious song from the film, Maya! A wonderful composition by iconic music director Salil Chaudhary! Dwijen Mukherjee sung this song for Dev Anand and the female version is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Dwijen Mukherjee’s voice resembles the voice of the renowned singer, Hemant Kumar. Though it’s a sad song its tune is par excellence. Best sad song I have ever heard!
